France Will Add More Than 3.15Gw Of New Photovoltaic Installed Capacity In 2023
According to the latest data from Enedis, France will add more than 3.15 GW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity in 2023. About one-third of the new installed capacity comes from self-consumption systems, and France aims to become a leader in renewable energy.

France Increasingly Adopts Solar Energy
Interest in solar energy in France has grown over the years due to a number of factors including the need to reduce carbon emissions, the availability of sufficient sunlight and the decreasing cost of solar technology. As France commits to the Paris Agreement, the country has set an ambitious target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
One of the ways France is working to meet its climate goals is by increasing the share of renewable energy. The country aims to generate 33% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2023 and has launched several incentive programs to encourage homeowners and businesses to install solar panels.
The self-consumption plan launched by the French government in 2017 has successfully encouraged residents to install self-consumption systems. Self-consumption systems allow homeowners to generate their own electricity and use it, and sell excess electricity back to the grid. With one third of new PV capacity coming from captive systems, France is expected to continue its trend towards becoming a more energy independent country.
French Photovoltaic Installed Capacity In Recent Years
French solar installations have been growing steadily, with 2.8 GW installed in 2021 and 2.6 GW installed in 2022. France will continue to add more than 3.15 GW of installed solar PV capacity in 2023. It is expected to exceed 4 GW by 2024.

One reason is that the cost of solar technology continues to fall, making it an economically viable option for many consumers. In addition, the French government has introduced various incentives, including tax credits and low-interest loans, to encourage solar PV installations.
France's increasing adoption of solar energy is a positive trend for the country and the world. To meet ambitious climate goals, the country is working to increase its share of renewable energy, including solar energy.
